Reptile health care at DVAH

Veterinary Care for Reptiles

Exotic Health Care

The category of reptiles includes Tortoises/Turtles, Iguanas, Bearded Dragons, Chameleons, Lizards, Snakes, etc.

Reptiles can make great pets as long as they are properly cared for. It is fairly common for reptilian pets to suffer from malnutrition due to an inadequate diet. This is not because of intentional owner neglect but because of a lack of knowledge in regards to what these animals need to thrive. When you bring your pet into DVAH we will make sure that you are fully informed about the proper diet and proper living conditions in order for your pet to live its healthiest life.

It is important that you bring your reptile pets in for annual check ups in order for us to provide the best care possible. Since it is always difficult to detect illness and health issues affecting exotic pets, these annual exams allow us to establish a base line health for your pet and detect changes over time. If you are able to bring your reptile pet into us in its enclosure we will also be able to offer you tips about how to optimize their living conditions and ensure they are getting what they need to have a happy and healthy life.

You should bring your reptile pet in to see us immediately if they exhibit any of these symptoms:

  • Changing in eating or drinking habits
  • Shedding problems
  • Swelling/bumps/lumps
  • Changes in urine or stool production
  • Change in energy level
  • Change in general appearance
  • Limping or lameness
  • Changes in posture
  • Breathing problems
  • Bubbles from nostrils or eyes
  • Inability to open eyes
  • Swollen eyes
  • Oral Lesions

Call us as soon as possible if your pet is displaying any of these concerning signs!
