Prior to Surgery
Our focus is on the best possible outcome for your pet, which includes patient safety, anesthesia protocols and pain management. We carefully examine each pet prior to surgery and we recommend pre-anesthesia bloodwork to be sure your pet is healthy to receive anesthesia. Anesthetic drugs are individually selected for each pet based on the procedure, their age, breed and health status.
We have protocols in place to make anesthesia and surgery as safe as possible for our patients:
Communication throughout the day of surgery is important to us. We will be sure that we have the best contact information when you drop off your pet and will keep you fully informed about your pet’s surgery, progress and recovery. If required, the comprehensive pain management plan may include at-home pain medication to keep them as comfortable as possible at home. Upon discharge, we will explain all instructions to you.
Pain management is very important to us and is very important for the quick recovery of your pet. For more information about how we view pain management at DVAH, please visit our pain management page.
